Cold Showers!

How many of you would take a cold shower when there is an option to use hot water? Not many, I bet! However, did you know that the benefits of a cold shower far exceed those of using hot water?

I believe the most noticeable change after you take a cold shower is how great you feel after it. This happens because the room temperature will be much higher than that of the water, resulting in a sense of warmth after getting out, which also releases certain chemicals in your brain - contrasted to how sluggish you feel with after using the usual temperature. I remember feeling slightly reluctant to even get out of a hot shower…

Cold showers are shown to help:

• Dry skin

• Depression

• Weight loss

• Muscle soreness

• Stress

• Alertness

• Immunity to illnesses

• Blood circulation

• Hair

The only disadvantage is that you feel a strong sensation of cold, although you get used to it. Cold showers also increase your energy throughout the day. This is because your body’s natural response to the shock is deep breathing to help keep warm. This increases our heart rate, giving you more energy and alertness/focus. Hot water tends to dry out the skin, however cold water can seal the pores of it, which prevents dirt from getting in. This works in the same with your hair.

Cold showers can promote tolerance to stress and also helps to relieve depression. During times of stress e.g. A-Levels, it is important to keep calm.

I believe all of this helps explain why taking a cold shower is far better for you than taking a hot one. I suggest to give it a try because you will feel the benefits immediately.
